International
Although much of the ageing research supported by EPSRC and BBSRC enjoys an international reputation as being at the "leading edge" it would benefit from greater exposure and discussion with leading experts from overseas in a more intimate environment than international conferences. Also, newcomers to ageing research derive significant benefit from involvement with those operating at an international level.
SPARC facilitated a number of international workshops and other events utilising opportunities available through the various schemes operated by EPSRC, BBSRC, the RSC and other bodies. SPARC ensured that experts from overseas participated in workshops in the UK designed specifically to promote international collaboration and networking, and that researchers from the UK participated in similar workshops overseas.
To facilitate long term relationships some workshops were organised on a bilateral basis with joint funding from the UK research councils and their counterparts in specific overseas countries. But other approaches to international collaboration and opportunities were also been pursued.
SPARC was keen to facilitate further international workshops championed by members of the research community. Mindful of the work involved in securing funding and organising such activities SPARC was able to support potential champions in developing applications for funding and the running of events. Many schemes which support international workshops fund just travel, subsistence, venue and catering costs but do not meet administration costs. This is where the SPARC resources played an important role. The same will be true for KT-EQUAL.
Would you be interested in championing an international workshop or other activity? Then please contact the SPARC secretariat. We would be very pleased to discuss this with you.
