SPARC AWARD Holders Workshop
27 March 2006
Objectives
- To build the SPARC community by:
- Introducing Award holders, their RAs and others involved with projects to each other, to the Directors, SPARC Advisory Committee members and other interested stakeholders
- Briefing the Award holders on their role in SPARC
- To support the Award holders by providing a low risk and supportive environment for:
- Presentation of their work
- Discussion of issues facing the Award holders, arising from SPARC and more generally
- Developing some initial publicity/presentation material
Approach:
A workshop comprising:
- Briefings about SPARC and Ageing research in general
- Presentations by a few selected Award holder
- Posters to be constructed by all and presented by those who do not give formal presentation
- Small group discussions
- General networking
- Feedback and encouragement
Participants (max approximately 60):
- Award Holders (PIs), CIs, RAs and collaborators (say, 40)
- Some committee members and organisers (12)
- Open invitation but limited places available (8)
Other Issues:
- Before the meeting each team to produce up to two Posters (one to be accessible to all stakeholders, and if necessary the other for specialist scientific audiences), to a set format and dimensions (A1) and with SPARC identity so that we have a consistent set of posters. Two sets to be run off by SPARC secretariat - one for the Award holders, the other for the organisers.
- Travel and Subsistence - costs will be met directly by SPARC and will not be viewed as one of the two workshops which Award holders are expected to attend within their award. These costs need not be excessive as Apex train fares are quite cheap.
- A number of SPARC Advisory Committee members will be involved. They will take the role of friendly helpers especially with the poster and group discussion sessions.
